BTMC - MINUTES OF MEETING " SPRING FLING"

Word of the day : Blossom

Thursday, March 11, 2010, Merchantile Athletic Club

“ Spring is associated to time of growth, renewal, and new life. This term is also expressed as a Metaphor for the start of better times and better life. Many flowering plants bloom this time of year such as magnolias, cherries, quince and august “.

Our TOM of tonight’s meeting, TM Fetty Kartini explained a glance of Spring season to the audience at the opening sessions. She also asked CTM CL Mike Nicholson to share his childhood experience when he was still in UK and how spring time felt like in his hometown. The blooming flowers and fallen leaves in Mike’s backyard made him so happy and enjoyed his moments of spring back then. Mike’s experience spread the sense of Spring to the audience that night who were mostly never felt how spring was like since Indonesia is not a four seasons country.

The audience of tonight’s meeting was “blooming” when TM Alvin Anwari led the table topic session, Three questions thrown out to the audience who were anxiously waiting to be chosen.  CC Thomas Alfiandes chose “ Peter Pan “ as the character which really reflected himself when he was asked to choose one of the cartoon character who could represent him the most. Meanwhile, TM Matthew Horkey expressed his mind about Spring in a smart and elegant way where he associated the blooming times of spring with new beginning and a time to growth as well as develop as a person.  What an inspiring speech! Most people in the audience liked the speech so much and eventually he was chosen as the Best Table Topic Speaker in the Hall of Fame session.

“ Angry is good and normal so Get Angry, People !

TM Noortanti Kusumastuti brought a new concept and horizon of Angry to the mindset of every audience tonight. Truly brilliant how she presented the other side of Angry in her BM 3 Project with the title “ Aarrggggghhh ……. “ A twist of mind contrary to the general thought of every people. Angry should be expressed ! and it should  not be holding in since it will effect our health. The Fact is that angry is a healthy, normal emotion when you know how to express it appropriately and could deal with the situation in a positive way.

In her childhood life, she was taught by her parents that Angry should not be released. She should stepped back and calm her self down when it attacked her and should not let the anger controlled her. “ Take a deep breath and count to three to let go the feeling of angry !“ advised her parents.  Her one of a kind speech achieved its purpose in persuading the audience to vote for her and titled her as the Best Prepared Speaker.

TM Yenie Tanzino delivered her BM 2 – Organize your speech with the title “ When You Pay Peanut, You Get Monkey “ . Her travelling experience was so funny and made everybody smile and laugh. She delivered her speech hilariously. Everyone in the meeting was entertained with her story and we got the tips and trick as a back packer traveller as well.

Both of our International Speech Representatives in the Area Level delivered their dazzling speeches. TM Matthew Horkey who delivered the speech of “ Your Most Valuable Asset “ explained how Health is the most valuable asset for everyone and should be taking care of. He also gave us a glimpse on his occupation as a chiropractor. TM Muqlazh Yusufi delivered his BM 9 speech - Persuade with power with the title “ The Greatest Treasure “ and was evaluated by CTM CL Mike Nicholson. His powerful speech truly persuaded the audience to look at Books as the Greatest Treasure of all times.

The prepared speech session concluded with the speech from ACB CL  Indriati Permanasari - AM # 2 Interpersonal Com - The Succesful Negotiator and the title was “ Everything is negotiable“. The Negotiation’s role play was about sponsorship proposal to support the event of “Puteri Indonesia“ which was organized by Mustika Ratu. As a Public Relations Officer who was a representative of Mustika Ratu, Indri could developed her negotiation skill very well and successfully persuaded her client who was an owner of a motorcycle producer in Indonesia to be the event’s sponsor. Everything is indeed negotiable once you implemented all of those negotiation tips from our Club’s President. What a performance!

Tonight’s meeting was slightly different.  All of the audience were asked to be silent evaluators for our International Speech Contest Representatives. They should gave feed back, advises as well as evaluation for these gentlemen. This is very essential for their improvement prior to the Area Level contest which will be held within next few weeks

Evaluation Sessions was indeed a session which shouldn’t be missed out this time since   All of our best Evaluators  could be there and evaluated those prepared speakers. Steve Bowen’s evaluation was not only enlightened the speaker but the audience as well. Cindy Resita and Mike Nicholson were also gave an exceptional evaluations for TM Noortanti and TM Muqlazh Yusufi who were then titled them as the Best Evaluator in the Hall Of Fame Session. Yes ! We had two Best Evaluators voted by the audience in the meeting that night.

The Meeting really “fling” everyone’s mind about spring this time. The members and guests of the Club blossom all night long during the meeting.

Minutes of Meeting " Aal Izz Well "

British Toastmasters Club - "AAL  IZZ  WELL” - Feb 18, 2010

“ When you start a conversation with strangers just relax because Aal Izz Well “

There are four elements in making an interesting conversation with anyone which are:

  • Confident
  • Interesting to others
  • Listening very closely
  • Mutual Respect

ACB CL Indriati Permana Sari astonished audience in the prepared speech session with her Advance Manual 1 Interpersonal Communication “Conversing with Ease”. She convinced us that talking to stranger is not something to be avoid and afraid of and instead, it should be considered as an enjoyable and exciting moments to get to know more interesting people. Those elements presented were indeed a vital skill that a good communicator should have!  TM Yenny Tanzino delivered the Ice Breaker “ He Died While He Was Still Alive “ and brought the other side of her who could cracked of the fear shell of  the uncertainty and got out of the comfort zone egg as she transformed herself and became a dedicated teacher for children. She really is an eager member and stepped up in such a sort time to deliver her first prepared speech. Only a single day prior to “D Day” of her Basic Manual 1 Speech Project she jointed as the member of BTMC. What a motivated lady! The next impressive speech was delivered  by TM Ole-Anders Hogstad in his Basic Manual 3 Speech who shared his tips on “ Invest in Property Development”.  Everyone had a better understanding on how to find a good property for investment now then they already got those clues from TM Ole and could be more aware on how to deal with those tempting marketing adds of housing estates from now on.

Our TM Bobby Kalwani was truly made some differences this time, He sang a song and dance for us all that night. I believe the spirit of Toastmasters has got in to him deeply and made him an entertaining speaker. Our adorable TOM brought those funny and smart jokes along with him and turned our meeting in a colorful and vibrant atmosphere. We learned more from him about the mosaic of art, culture and tradition which India offered to the rest of the world through bollywood movies where India, the land of storehouse of beauty, dream, tradition and verve is shared and become famous. “ The Three Idiots “ movie which was played inspired us to release our self and relax in dealing with problems because “ Aal Izz Well “ when you always remind your self How GOD really is Great and a savior for human kind ! As our TOM Bobby Kalwani Quoted , “ Don’t tell GOD how big your problem is, but tell the Problem how big your GOD is ! “

The Table Topic Session was indeed full of excitement on the table since TM Fetty Kartini made a one of a kind session. She brought four rolls of Bollywood pictures actress and actors to be passed around to the audience while a soundtrack of “3 Idiots” movie played and whoever got the rolls must answered the questions thrown out by our Table Topic Master related to those pictures. Quite surprisingly to know the responses from those who got the rolls and spoke up their mind on their feet.  Fajar, one of the guest who attended the meeting for a very first time and got the rolls of the ” 3 idiots actors picture ‘ shared  us the moments when he felt being an idiot in his life and one of them was that when he felt nervous, he counted the floor tiles to ease the nervousness and made him more relax. His spontaneous and hilarious answers got him self the title of the Best Table Topic Speaker in the Hall Of Fame Session. Not to be missed at this session was, our Ms. President of BTMC, ACB CL Indriati Permanasari titled as both Best Prepared Speaker and Best Evaluator. Remarkable! She’s truly is an inspiration.

BTMC’s meeting finished strong by our TOM, TM Bobby Kalwani off course who fulfill his promise to sing some India’s songs along with its unique dances. He really got us a glimpse through India’s romantic stories and life. It’s an exceptional meeting indeed! Everyone laughed out loud and thrown out funny lines and jokes among each other and become happier and healthier that night!
