THE BRITISH TOASTMASTERS CLUB
2010 INTERNATIONAL & TABLE TOPIC SPEECH CONTEST
Thursday, February 25, 2010
6:30 PM (dinner starts), 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
@ The Mercantile Athletic Club
World Trade Centre 18th Floor, Jl. Jend. Sudirman

My Dear  BTMC-ers, My Fellow Toastmasters,

As a Toastmaster tradition, around the month of February every year, every Toastmaster club in the world holds its International & Table Topic Speech Contest. The purposes of holding this contest are to provide a platform for speakers to improve their speaking abilities and to recognize the best encouragement to all, and to provide an opportunity to learn by observing more proficient speakers who have benefited from Toastmasters training.

Therefore, we encourage all BTMC members to participate in this contest as contestants. Don't be nervous...don't be scared... Just like in any competition, there will always be those who win and those who do not win. But the most important aspect of this competition is to use this platform to challenge your communication and English skills at a different level. And in the end...whether winning or losing...you will have won over yourself. On top of that...remember that if you decide to participate in this contest, you can ask for a special mentor, who is a more experienced Toastmasters, to assist you with your contest preparation. So...don't be afraid and don't think that you are on your own. ^_^

The eligibility requirement is as the following:

  1. Must be a member in good standing (has dues and membership application current with Toastmasters International by the day of the competition)
  2. Currently is not in position as incumbent international officers and directors, or district officers
  3. For Table Topic, any BTMC member in good standing can participate EVEN if you have not delivered your BM 1 (Ice Breaker) speech
  4. For International Speech, the BTMC member interested in participating must have completed at least BM 6 (Vocal Variety) prior to the day of the club speech contest

So, my Dearest BTMC-ers, my Fellow Toastmasters, what are you waiting for? Show me that you are not an "average" person. Show us that you have the "guts" to do it!

For further information about this contest and to apply for this contest, please contact your Contest Chairman, Shabrina Mukhlasianti at shabrinanina@gmail.com OR 0856 2288934.

BTMC - "Scottish Icons" (Thursday, January 28, 2009)

---------- Forwarded message ----------

O-genki Desu Ka...FELLOW TOASTMASTERS....
(read: How are you, Fellow Toastmasters?)

"O-genki desu ka." is the Japanese for "How are you," just in case some of you are wondering. ^_^

You see...we always learn something as a Toastmaster in a Toastmasters meeting. Whether we come just as a guest, a meeting participant, a role-taker, an Ex-Co member, a prepared speaker, or a mentor, there is always an ample opportunity to learn something out of a Toastmasters meeting and through our interaction with our fellow Toastmasters. Maybe we learn about a new English expression that we never knew before. Maybe we learn about a proper use of grammar that we were never aware of before. Maybe we learn how to motivate a new member who seem to be rather shy or afraid to speak in public. Maybe we learn about a life lesson from a story that a prepared speaker deliver in her speech. Maybe we learn how to be able to speak in an organized, effective manner in such a short time through our participation in a Table Topic session.

You see...there is always something we can learn from each other. There is always something we can learn from Toastmasters.

Last year we learned about a country called United Kingdom through our special meeting under the theme of "The Taste of British." NOW....let us learn something about that one state in United Kingdom called....SCOTLAND!!!!!! Whisky...bagpipes...the kilts...short-breads...Arthur Conan Doyle...Wet Wet Wet...Edinburgh...

At least for the whole 2 hours of our meeting.... you can try being a Scot... ^_^

"Speaking After Dinner"

"Here's to 2009: Let's be thankful for the favorable situations it brought us, especially those we grabbed hold of and thrived on. Here's to the not-so-fortunate things that happened and the valuable lessons we learned from them, even if it's only 'I'll never do that again!'"

"Here's to 2010: Let's look forward to it with happy anticipation. In the bright New Year, let us pursue success and happiness as always;

Here’s to British Toastmasters Club…..May the journey of success continue year after year.

"And here's to all of you. How privileged we are to know each other. In the new year, let us find out more about each other, enjoy each other's talents and gifts, and encourage each other."

at last "To 2010 —the best year ever!"

Cheers….

A heartwarming toast that was led by ACB CL Indriati Permanasari opened the British Toastmasters Club’s special event (17/12) at Frontpage Wine&Dine. The Toastmasters of the Meeting, CC Cindy Resita, then started the sharing session related to member’s Toastmasters experience.

In the prepared speech session, TM Onny delivered her first Ice Breaker speech, continued by TM Yulia with her Basic Manual 2 project “organizing your speech”, and ACB CL Indriati Permanasari who was also conducted a special session “the Award Presentation”. These awards were :

Step Up Award was given to TM Didi Mujayadi for his effort to "step-up" and fill any needed role in club meetings, without warning or preparation.

The Most Dependable Award was given to TM Yulia for being the most reliable member in doing assigned jobs and will happily take on a last minute task when needed.

The Most Improved Speaker Award was given to TM Zulkarnain, a club member who has improved the most in communication.

After that, TM Tanty led the Table Topic Session with topics that being matched with the meeting theme “New Year, New You”. A bit different this time, TM Onny who got the lucky paper received a little surprise which was a delicious Ice Cream.

In the Hall of Fame, ACB CL Indriati Permanasari titled as the Best Prepared speaker, Larisa as the Best Table Topics speaker, and ACB Matthew Price as the Best Evaluator.

The meeting was closed by a toast.

Happy New Year to you!
May every great new day, Bring you sweet surprises

"Speaking After Dinner" & "Membership Participation Contest" - December 17, 2009

Hello Fellow British Toastmasters,

Can't believe it is already the last month of 2009. I am already counting down to my Christmas break that is coming up in 2 weeks. Yupppieee....

Just want to remind you all once again to SAVE THE DATE for Thursday, December 17, 2009. Our club will be holding a special meeting that is slightly different from the ordinary. It will be a "Speaking After Dinner" meeting. The venue will be off MAC. Most likely it will be at the Grand Indonesia / Plaza Indonesia and vicinity. Somewhere there, for sure.

If any of you is interested to assist organizing this Dec 17 special meeting, please contact me directly at 0813 8076 9959 or cindyresita@gmail.com. Any help...any crazy, weird, fun ideas...will be very welcome!

On top of that, we are holding a Membership Participation Contest for this special meeting. There are 2 purposes of holding this contest. First is to invite all members of British Toastmasters Club to get involved in meeting planning and preparation. Many of you must have many fun, unique, extraordinary ideas that can be implemented to make our meeting more interesting, more enticing, and more educating. Therefore, for the first part of the contest, we will be choosing for:

  • The 3 Best Meeting Theme ideas (and how these themes should be implemented) --- winning themes will be used for our next meetings in 2010
  • The 3 Best, Most Creative Table Topic ideas --- these ideas will be implemented in our next meetings in 2010
The second purpose of this Membership Participation Contest is to give recognition and public appreciation to some of our fellow Toastmasters who have shown and proven their hard-work, dedication, and commitment to the Toastmasters program in general and to our club in particular. Therefore, for the second part of the contest, we will be choosing for:
  1. Most Improved Speaker (Club member we think has improved the most in communication skill)
  2. Most Dependable Toastmaster (Club member we think is the most reliable in doing assigned jobs and will happily take on a last minute task when needed)
  3. Step-Up Toastmaster (Club Member recognized for his/her effort to "step-up" and fill any needed roles without warning or preparation)
I will be sending the on-line survey ballot for this Membership Participation Contest by tomorrow, Thursday, December 3, 2009. You may cast your vote and ideas until the survey is closed on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Our team of judges consist of all the British Toastmasters Club Executive Committee (Indri - President, Cindy - VPE, Lola - VPM, Steve - VPR, Shabrina - SAA, Mike - Past Immediate President). As such, these people are not eligible either to cast their votes and ideas, OR to be voted for.

Thank you, Everyone! Please let me know if you you have any questions or comments about this special meeting or about the Membership Participation Contest.

Hope to see you all on British Toastmasters Club next meeting on Thursday, December 10, 2009.
