"Speaking After Dinner"

"Here's to 2009: Let's be thankful for the favorable situations it brought us, especially those we grabbed hold of and thrived on. Here's to the not-so-fortunate things that happened and the valuable lessons we learned from them, even if it's only 'I'll never do that again!'"

"Here's to 2010: Let's look forward to it with happy anticipation. In the bright New Year, let us pursue success and happiness as always;

Here’s to British Toastmasters Club…..May the journey of success continue year after year.

"And here's to all of you. How privileged we are to know each other. In the new year, let us find out more about each other, enjoy each other's talents and gifts, and encourage each other."

at last "To 2010 —the best year ever!"

Cheers….

A heartwarming toast that was led by ACB CL Indriati Permanasari opened the British Toastmasters Club’s special event (17/12) at Frontpage Wine&Dine. The Toastmasters of the Meeting, CC Cindy Resita, then started the sharing session related to member’s Toastmasters experience.

In the prepared speech session, TM Onny delivered her first Ice Breaker speech, continued by TM Yulia with her Basic Manual 2 project “organizing your speech”, and ACB CL Indriati Permanasari who was also conducted a special session “the Award Presentation”. These awards were :

Step Up Award was given to TM Didi Mujayadi for his effort to "step-up" and fill any needed role in club meetings, without warning or preparation.

The Most Dependable Award was given to TM Yulia for being the most reliable member in doing assigned jobs and will happily take on a last minute task when needed.

The Most Improved Speaker Award was given to TM Zulkarnain, a club member who has improved the most in communication.

After that, TM Tanty led the Table Topic Session with topics that being matched with the meeting theme “New Year, New You”. A bit different this time, TM Onny who got the lucky paper received a little surprise which was a delicious Ice Cream.

In the Hall of Fame, ACB CL Indriati Permanasari titled as the Best Prepared speaker, Larisa as the Best Table Topics speaker, and ACB Matthew Price as the Best Evaluator.

The meeting was closed by a toast.

Happy New Year to you!
May every great new day, Bring you sweet surprises

"Speaking After Dinner" & "Membership Participation Contest" - December 17, 2009

Hello Fellow British Toastmasters,

Can't believe it is already the last month of 2009. I am already counting down to my Christmas break that is coming up in 2 weeks. Yupppieee....

Just want to remind you all once again to SAVE THE DATE for Thursday, December 17, 2009. Our club will be holding a special meeting that is slightly different from the ordinary. It will be a "Speaking After Dinner" meeting. The venue will be off MAC. Most likely it will be at the Grand Indonesia / Plaza Indonesia and vicinity. Somewhere there, for sure.

If any of you is interested to assist organizing this Dec 17 special meeting, please contact me directly at 0813 8076 9959 or cindyresita@gmail.com. Any help...any crazy, weird, fun ideas...will be very welcome!

On top of that, we are holding a Membership Participation Contest for this special meeting. There are 2 purposes of holding this contest. First is to invite all members of British Toastmasters Club to get involved in meeting planning and preparation. Many of you must have many fun, unique, extraordinary ideas that can be implemented to make our meeting more interesting, more enticing, and more educating. Therefore, for the first part of the contest, we will be choosing for:

  • The 3 Best Meeting Theme ideas (and how these themes should be implemented) --- winning themes will be used for our next meetings in 2010
  • The 3 Best, Most Creative Table Topic ideas --- these ideas will be implemented in our next meetings in 2010
The second purpose of this Membership Participation Contest is to give recognition and public appreciation to some of our fellow Toastmasters who have shown and proven their hard-work, dedication, and commitment to the Toastmasters program in general and to our club in particular. Therefore, for the second part of the contest, we will be choosing for:
  1. Most Improved Speaker (Club member we think has improved the most in communication skill)
  2. Most Dependable Toastmaster (Club member we think is the most reliable in doing assigned jobs and will happily take on a last minute task when needed)
  3. Step-Up Toastmaster (Club Member recognized for his/her effort to "step-up" and fill any needed roles without warning or preparation)
I will be sending the on-line survey ballot for this Membership Participation Contest by tomorrow, Thursday, December 3, 2009. You may cast your vote and ideas until the survey is closed on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Our team of judges consist of all the British Toastmasters Club Executive Committee (Indri - President, Cindy - VPE, Lola - VPM, Steve - VPR, Shabrina - SAA, Mike - Past Immediate President). As such, these people are not eligible either to cast their votes and ideas, OR to be voted for.

Thank you, Everyone! Please let me know if you you have any questions or comments about this special meeting or about the Membership Participation Contest.

Hope to see you all on British Toastmasters Club next meeting on Thursday, December 10, 2009.

British Toastmasters Club Meeting - The Taste of British - Nov 26, 2009

Do you know that "Union Jack" is the term used to refer to the British flag which is made up of the flags of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom?

That is one of the many interesting fun facts we learned together during our club meeting last week on Thursday, November 26, 2009 - The Taste of British. It was a FUN FUN meeting, especially since we had TM Mike Nicholson, one of our experts in "everything about British,"  as the TOM of the night. Good job, Mike! And thank you for all the cool British accessories you brought to the meeting, for displaying and explaining them to the audience.

The meeting was opened with new member induction ceremony to welcome our new members TM Miwa Suzuki and TM Mieke Rumambi into British Toastmasters Club. Our VPM, CC Lola Delfin, who pretended being Queen Elizabeth II that night, was the one who led this ceremony. As our new fellow Toastmasters Miwa and Mieke have agreed upon the Toastmaster's Promise by saying "I Do" during the induction ceremony, let us not forget to do our part as "more senior" Toastmasters to support their journey with us in becoming a better speaker, a more influential leader.

What was really extraordinary about our club's meeting last week was the name-tag. Every attendee was required to wear a name-tag of a famous British character, from a writer to a member of the Royal family, from a recent star to an ancient person...David Beckham, Charlie Chaplin, King Arthur, Queen Elizabeth II, Hugh Grant, and many more. Whichever name-tag the attendee chose to wear, he/she was required to pretend being such character until the meeting ended. It was indeed FUN seeing how all this arrangement came along during the Table Topic session where our King Arthur, Lord Nelson, David Beckham, and Charlie Chaplin wannabe's answered the simple, yet intriguing table topic questions thrown out by our Table Topic Master, CC Cindy Resita.

We had three prepared speakers that night. Our first speaker was TM Miwa Suzuki who delivered a speech about her life history and how she finally ended living in Jakarta after years of working as a flight attendant, a Certified Public Accountant, and also an Investment Banker. She was evaluated by ACB CL Indriati Permanasari. The second speaker was our one and only TM Didi Mujayadi, one of the most diligent and dedicated members of our club who is always there in our club meeting either it rains or shines. TM Didi delivered a speech about how things that we consider simple or unimportant can actually become disasters. He was evaluated by TM Ted Palawi, our guest evaluator from Metropolitan Toastmasters Club. Our last speaker of the day was our one and only club President ACB CL Indriati Permanasari. She delivered a speech from Advanced Manual Special Occasion Speeches - The Roast. And whom did she roast during the speech? Guess what....it was Enid Blyton a.k.a CC Cindy Resita, our VPE. And who evaluated her? Oh no...Enid Blyton as well. Ck ck ck. But hey...it was indeed a good "roast," especially when you saw how CC Cindy reacted to the jokes and anecdotes ACB CL Indri delivered during her speech.

Overall, as our General Evaluator of the day - Queen Elizabeth II said during her evaluation session, it was indeed a fun, fantastic, educational meeting. Not only we learned about communication and trained ourselves to be better communicators, we also learned a lot about anything related to "British." Maybe next...we can have a Japanese night? Indian night? Indonesian night? Javanese night? East Indonesian night? etc. etc. This will open up more opportunities for all of us to learn about our own and other countries' cultures, histories, and traditions.

Thank you for everyone who volunteered taking roles during the meeting --- TM Yulia as Um-Ah Counter, TM Fetty as Grammarian, TM Mieke as Ballot Counter, and of course CC Shabrina as the SAA of the meeting. Thank you also for all of you who came. We are all looking forward to seeing you in our next meeting on Thursday, December 10, 2009.

SAVE THE DATE!!! Thursday, December 17, 2009.

MY FELLOW BRITISH TOASTMASTERS CLUBBERS....^^

I just want to remind you to save the date in your calendar for Thursday, December 17, 2009.

We will be having a special BTMC meeting that will be held outside of The MAC. This will be a "Speaking After Dinner" meeting where we all will have a good, rather fancy (of course...no more nasi goreng...) together, that will be followed with speaking, sharing, and toasting sessions afterward. This Dec 17 meeting will also be our last British Toastmasters Club meeting for the year 2009 (hiks...hiks...), so you'd better don't miss it!!!!

Actually, we are still looking for a venue that is located along Jl. Jenderal Sudirman and MH. Thamrin. Preferably a restaurant where the food is affordable yet decent, catered buffet style, and has a private room for us to use for approximately 2 - 3 hours (including preparation). If any of you have any connections...or know a place with such criteria...please let us know.

THANKS!!!!!

Congratulations CC Shabrina Mukhlasianti & CC Lola Delfin

Dear British Toastmasters,

Tonight's meeting was a blast!!!! Our club just had 2 new Competent Communicators. Please give a big round of applause to CC Shabrina Mukhlasianti & CC Lola Delfin!!!! Clap...clap...clap... They delivered impressive speeches tonight; ones that inspired us as audience, ones that showcased the various public speaking skills they have learned and gained from delivering their previous 9 basic manual speeches, and from all other Toastmasters trainings they have received since the day they joined British Toastmasters Club.

Our new member TM Noor Tanti also gave an impressive Ice Breaker speech which allowed us to discover that she has such a firing passion for movies. TM Tanti, let us watch that upcoming movie "2012" together as we discussed last week on the phone, shall we? Any other Toastmasters interested to join us? ;-P You are all very welcome to do so.

Big thanks for the others who have taken meeting roles to ensure that our meeting went smoothly...TM Raj as TOM, TM Steve as GE, TM Didi as Um-Ah Counter, TM Onny as Ballot Counter, TM Mike as Evaluator, and last but not least our Ms. President TM Indri who delivered a special educational session "Moment of Truth."

We will be meeting again on Thursday, November 26. So...SAVE THE DATE!!!! We will have a special theme on that day...anything related to British...British flag, British accent, English tea, The Beatles, David Beckham (oopppsss...), Manchaster United (Go TM Raj!!!), Spice Girls, Queen of England, Prince William (ohh...so handsome...), TM Steve Bowen (hehehehehe...;-P), the late Lady Diana, etc, etc. It will be special. So...make sure YOU COME!!!! AND if you have any inputs on how to make this upcoming meeting more festive and more "British," please feel free to let us know!

Prepared speakers scheduled for November 26 are: TM Indri (AM), TM Onny (BM 1), TM Didi (BM 2), TM (Gusni BM 2). All scheduled speakers...please make sure you prepare for the speeches, 'kay? You all still have 3 more weeks to prepare. It should be enough time. ^_^ I still have one slot left for prepared speaker. First come first serve.
