Our beloved TM Mike Nicholson...TM Steve Bowen...what do these Toastmasters have in common with those people above? Are they FAMOUS? Hmmm.....well...well....*wink2* Are they HANDSOME? YES...(at least their wives think so...^^) Are they BEAUTIFUL? Well...they are males...of course not... Oh, wait! I know! They are all members of British Toastmasters Club who are BRITISH...just like those FAMOUS people mentioned above. Hehehehehehehe.....

November 26...The British Toastmasters Club is celebrating everything BRITISH!!!! It's all about BRITISH...because we are The BRITISH Toastmasters Club... Let's have everything BRITISH in The BRITISH  Toastmasters Club!!! Sharpen your communication skill, build up your leadership skill, network with new friends and colleagues, and...have FUN with The BRITISH Toastmasters Club.

"TASTE OF BRITISH"
Thursday, Nov 26, 2009
6:30 pm to 7:00 pm starts
Mercantile Athletic Club, WTC Sudirman 18th Floor
   Attendance Fee: Rp. 30,000 

Dress Code: Anything in red-blue-and white, Manchaster United uniform, wardrobe ala The Beatles, costumes ala Spice Girls, dressing up as Harry Potter, anything....as long as it has BRITISH taste in it. Be creative and reveal your BRITISH-ness (hmmm...I don't think there is such a word).

If you wish to volunteer for a meeting role, you may contact Cindy Resita (0813 8076 9959).

To assist with meeting venue and catering, please confirm your attendance by Tuesday, Nov 24, 2009 by contacting Shabrina (0856 2288 934) / Mike (0855 100 6453). By the way, this confirmation request is for REAL!!! If we know that there will be more than 20 people who will be coming, then we can book a bigger room for our venue. So, either you are a member or a guest, PLEASE DO confirm your attendance so that all of us can have fun and learn together in a more comfortable setting and need not be packed in a small room like canned sardines (or tuna...yummmyyy...) ^_^

SAVE THE DATE!!! Thursday, December 17, 2009.

MY FELLOW BRITISH TOASTMASTERS CLUBBERS....^^

I just want to remind you to save the date in your calendar for Thursday, December 17, 2009.

We will be having a special BTMC meeting that will be held outside of The MAC. This will be a "Speaking After Dinner" meeting where we all will have a good, rather fancy (of course...no more nasi goreng...) together, that will be followed with speaking, sharing, and toasting sessions afterward. This Dec 17 meeting will also be our last British Toastmasters Club meeting for the year 2009 (hiks...hiks...), so you'd better don't miss it!!!!

Actually, we are still looking for a venue that is located along Jl. Jenderal Sudirman and MH. Thamrin. Preferably a restaurant where the food is affordable yet decent, catered buffet style, and has a private room for us to use for approximately 2 - 3 hours (including preparation). If any of you have any connections...or know a place with such criteria...please let us know.

Congratulations CC Shabrina Mukhlasianti & CC Lola Delfin

Dear British Toastmasters,

Tonight's meeting was a blast!!!! Our club just had 2 new Competent Communicators. Please give a big round of applause to CC Shabrina Mukhlasianti & CC Lola Delfin!!!! Clap...clap...clap... They delivered impressive speeches tonight; ones that inspired us as audience, ones that showcased the various public speaking skills they have learned and gained from delivering their previous 9 basic manual speeches, and from all other Toastmasters trainings they have received since the day they joined British Toastmasters Club.

Our new member TM Noor Tanti also gave an impressive Ice Breaker speech which allowed us to discover that she has such a firing passion for movies. TM Tanti, let us watch that upcoming movie "2012" together as we discussed last week on the phone, shall we? Any other Toastmasters interested to join us? ;-P You are all very welcome to do so.

Big thanks for the others who have taken meeting roles to ensure that our meeting went smoothly...TM Raj as TOM, TM Steve as GE, TM Didi as Um-Ah Counter, TM Onny as Ballot Counter, TM Mike as Evaluator, and last but not least our Ms. President TM Indri who delivered a special educational session "Moment of Truth."

We will be meeting again on Thursday, November 26. So...SAVE THE DATE!!!! We will have a special theme on that day...anything related to British...British flag, British accent, English tea, The Beatles, David Beckham (oopppsss...), Manchaster United (Go TM Raj!!!), Spice Girls, Queen of England, Prince William (ohh...so handsome...), TM Steve Bowen (hehehehehe...;-P), the late Lady Diana, etc, etc. It will be special. So...make sure YOU COME!!!! AND if you have any inputs on how to make this upcoming meeting more festive and more "British," please feel free to let us know!

Prepared speakers scheduled for November 26 are: TM Indri (AM), TM Onny (BM 1), TM Didi (BM 2), TM (Gusni BM 2). All scheduled speakers...please make sure you prepare for the speeches, 'kay? You all still have 3 more weeks to prepare. It should be enough time. ^_^ I still have one slot left for prepared speaker. First come first serve. So, if you are interested, please contact me immediately.

Message for BTMC-errs

Greetings fellow BTMC-errs!!!

How was your Toastmasters journey so far? We sincerely hope that the self-paced program has empowered you to achieve your full potential and improve your speaking, listening, thinking skills, vital skills that help you become more successful in your personal and professional lives.

 

We also would like to thank you for participating in the membership survey. The committee is keen to ensure that our Toastmasters club is meeting your needs. We believe that effective learning is learning by doing and improving through continuous practice and evaluation. We will make sure that you’ll practice in a friendly, supportive environment, with people who are there for the same reasons you are, to become better communicators and leaders.

 

As time goes by, we are continually strived to keep your excitement by doing something different in our meetings. On October 22, we held a special event for celebrating “85^th Anniversary of Toastmasters International”. Our little party was fun and everyone was in the spirit of celebration. We had an Educational Session with topic “Take the Terror out of Talk”, which taken from The Better Speaker Series. It was well presented by our guest speaker, DTM Teddy Lesmana. We hope this educational session has helped members in gaining information about techniques for overcoming nervousness when speaking. In the future, we are planning to give some educational sessions for members. In the middle of that celebration, our member, Toastmasters Cindy Resita, received an Educational Achievement and titled as “Competent Communicator”(CC), after she had completed her 10 projects.

 

On October 29, we also made variety on our traditional meeting format and conducted a Joint Meeting with Jakarta Toastmasters Club. We had a special theme “Happy Halloween”. It was a great spooky night..:), since we had members wore costumes such as witch, mask from “Scream the Movie”, gothic women, etc. But, it was also fun since we had a fairy, pirates, fortune teller, and girls with masquerade :) We had two TOMs, debate session, and Best Costume Competition.

 

Basically, we understood that “Toastmaster is like a love affair. Everything is exciting at first and then if you’re not careful, it can become dull and routine.” So, he we hope these variations will add a new dimension to our Toastmasters Training and keep everyone fresh.

 

We also should be proud that one of our members, Steve Bowen, had made it to District Level for Evaluation Speech Contest. We believe it was a journey of experience. We are encouraging all of you to prepare for upcoming International & Table Topic Club Speech Contest which approximately will be held on February 2010.

Another thing that members should know is that our club is working to accomplish goals from the Distinguished Club Program (DCP) . These goals are:

1.    Two CC’s

2.    Two more CC’s

3.    One AC Bronze/Silver/Gold

4.    One CL, AL Bronze, AL Silver or DTM.

5.    One more CL, AL Bronze, AL Silver or DTM

6.    Four New Members

7.    Four more New Members

8.    Minimum of 4 Clubs officers trained during each of two training periods.

9.    One membership renewal report and one club officer list submitted on time.

 

The British Toastmasters Club aim for “President’s Distinguished Club status”, which 9 of 10 goals should be achieved. Basically, this DCP focusing on 2 areas :

·         Educational Award : It determines our club’s success in helping its member learn not only speaking but leadership skill as well.

·         Membership: In order to conduct the educational program, a club should have at least 20 members. We should continually strive to bring in new members to combat natural membership turnover, and retain current ones.

So, we need to work together to achieve these goals, which mean at the end of the day, we help bringing out the best in each of us. Please bring your friends or colleagues to visit our meeting.
